Vail's reputation as winter vacation wonderland is well deserved. The town itself has virtually every comfort available. Perennially, the Ski Area consistently ranks among the top on the North American continent and among the very best in the world. Part of this high ranking is due to the fact that Vail is the largest single-mountain ski area in North America. It contains 4,644 acres of skiable terrain and stretches seven miles from east to west. If you enjoy top notch skiing, you will enjoy Vail skiing.

One of the distinguishing features of the ski area includes Vail's phenomenal Back Bowls, which provide pver 2,000 acres of spectacular terrain. The panoramic vistas available in the back bowls bring visitors back year after year. To accomodate the popularity of the mountain, Vail has built a very efficient lift system that includes nearly a dozen high-speed quad lifts, a gondola, and a supporting cast of over twnety five chair lifts.

If you are looking for activities beyond skiing, don't worry. Vail Mountain also has Adventure Ridge, a mountaintop activity center, which hosts several activities, such as tubing, ice skating, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, ski-biking, laser tag, and other adventures for skiers and non-skiers alike.

Once you come down off the mountain, Vail Village provides virtually everything you could want from a modern ski area. Although modern, the Village is an Austrian-inspired community of over 70 restaurants, excellent shopping and extraordinary lodge accommodations. All properties located in Vail's three main base areas ­ Lionshead, Vail Village and Golden Peak ­ are within a five-minute walk to the slopes. Outlying areas such as East and West Vail are accessible by a free bus system.
